What Can Ketamine Therapy Do for Me?

Ketamine therapy

Depression is a serious mental disorder that affects millions of people in the United States every year. The mood disorder is characterized by a constant sadness that can make it extremely tough to live a normal life. There are several different forms of medication designed to help people with depression, but these drugs unfortunately do not help everyone. Luckily, you are no longer out of options if you have treatment-resistant depression. You can start to gain back control of your life by undergoing ketamine therapy.

What is Ketamine Therapy?

Ketamine is a medication that has been used for decades to aid with patient anesthesia. While ketamine can be abused as a party drug, it is completely safe when administered in small doses by a medical professional. Ketamine therapy is a series of IV infusions that have been scientifically proven to provide excellent results for people suffering from depression. The best part of ketamine therapy is that it provides almost instant results and no dangerous side effects.

How It Works

You will be asked to sit in a comfortable chair before starting your ketamine therapy appointment. Once you are seated, the medical professional will attach the IV to a vein in your arm. It will take about 45 to 55 minutes to receive your entire dose of medication. While the relaxing effects of the ketamine will wear off a few minutes after the infusion, it is still recommended to have someone drive you home. It is also a good idea to eat a small meal a few hours before your appointment to help prevent any nausea.

Potential Results

Ketamine therapy is so effective at treating serious depression that some patients report seeing an improvement in their overall mood after their first appointment. While you may see instant results, you will still need to undergo a series of six treatment sessions in order to get the full benefit of ketamine therapy. These appointments must be scheduled every other day. It is also possible that you do not see any results until after your sixth appointment. You will need continuous exposure to ketamine to maintain your positive results. This is achieved by scheduling a ketamine therapy session once a month after the completion of your initial treatment plan.

You do not have to let serious depression take over your life. Ketamine therapy at Montana Psychiatry & Brain Health Center is now making it possible to restore normalcy back in your life. We are conveniently located in Billings, MT. Contact us today to schedule your consultation!
