Psychiatric Physician Assistant

Tru Schwend is a dedicated Physician Assistant who believes meaningful psychiatric care begins with genuine human connection. A fourth-generation Montanan born and raised in Joliet, Tru joins Montana Psychiatry with a deep commitment to seeing patients as people first, not just diagnoses. She strives to create a space where every patient feels heard, understood, and comfortable, knowing that trust in your provider is one of the most important parts of the healing process.

Tru earned her Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from Montana State University in Bozeman, where she also competed on the MSU Women’s Track and Field team from 2015 to 2020, earning multiple Big Sky Conference honors. Go Cats! She went on to complete her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at Rocky Mountain College in 2024, building a strong scientific foundation that now supports her patient-centered approach to mental health care.

A Foundation in Compassionate Care

Before entering psychiatry, Tru spent a year as a PA in Hematology/Oncology, where she walked alongside patients through some of the most difficult and uncertain moments of their lives. That experience gave her a strong foundation in complex medical care and deepened her understanding of how profoundly mental health shapes overall well-being. She brings that same compassion, empathy, and patient-centered mindset to every psychiatric visit.

A Passion for Maternal Mental Health

Tru has a particular interest in maternal mental health and looks forward to supporting women through pregnancy and the postpartum period. She recognizes how vulnerable and transformative this season of life can be, and she is committed to providing thoughtful, evidence-based care that helps mothers feel supported, validated, and empowered as they navigate the emotional realities of new motherhood.

Rooted in Montana

As a fourth-generation Montanan, Tru is grateful to give back to the community that helped shape who she is today. Outside of the clinic, she embraces everything Montana has to offer, from golfing to spending time outdoors with her husband and son. That connection to family, home, and community grounds her approach to care and keeps her focused on serving her neighbors well.
